Works beautifully
Bought this to use at work. The plate style warmers were a danger at work and hard to tell when off. They also don’t keep beverage uniformly warm. This product works perfectly. I can have a cup of tea or coffee at my desk at work and it stays hot for hours. The app also make it easy to control and monitor the temperature. And with with sensor that shuts off the cup when empty, I don’t have to worry about burning. And even better the cup is always cool enough to touch. Worked so well I purchased 2 more to use when working from home, just relaxing at the end of the night with a cup of tea or whenever I want something hot.

Almost RETURNED it, made 1 change, and now completely WORTH THE PRICE!
First, the Ember Smart Mug does exactly what it says it will do. So it would not be fair to give it less than 5 stars. If you set the temp on your app to 145, it will keep your drink at 145. It is easy to use. Once you have paired it to your phone initially, you never have to think about it again. Just hand wash it, put it on the charging coaster, and it will ready the next day.BUT DOES IT SOLVE THE COLD COFFEE PROBLEM?Ember is expensive. For that price, it should ensure I never have cold coffee again. Unfortunately, that is not entirely true. Ember will keep your coffee hot, but only until the battery runs out. For the 14 oz mug, this takes around 1.5 hours when fully charged. Like most coffee drinkers, you might down the first cup in 15 minutes, the second over the next 1/2 hour, but that last cup may sit on your desk for an hour or more while you’re busy. Then when you get a moment to take a sip; ugh, cold disgusting coffee. So the WHOLE story is that Ember will keep the first and 2nd cups piping hot, provided you finish them within the 1.5 hour battery life. But honestly, I didn’t search for a $120+ coffee cup for the first 2 cups of the day. I searched for a way to keep that 3rd cup hot, for an hour or more if possible. My first attempt to work around the short battery life was to use a standard coffee cup for the first 2 cups, and then use Ember for the 3rd. This did help, and the 3rd cup stayed hot longer. But not long enough for me. And should I really have to jump through extra hoops for a coffee cup that costs over $120?? I didn’t think so and had made up my mind to return it.DON’T GIVE UP, THERE IS HOPE!Thankfully, before giving up and sending Ember back, I searched on Ember’s website for ways to extend the battery life. And there I found the HOLY GRAIL… EMBER can heat your coffee while sitting on the “newly redesigned charging coaster”, WITHOUT using your battery!WHY didn’t I find this sooner! All I had to do was move the charging coaster to my desk, instead of next to the coffee pot. Clouds parted, stars aligned, and now my 3rd cup will stay hot all day if I want. And I don’t notice any difference with the coaster on my desk. It is so slim and sleek, I don’t even notice it sitting in that spot that was reserved for my coffee cup anyway.FINALLY, HOT COFFEE ALL DAY! I would give Ember 6 starts if I could, for finally solving the cold coffee dilemma. Thank you Ember for such an amazing product. Might be worth HIGHLIGHTING the ability to keep your cup hot for hours provided the charging coaster is used.

Great Product!
I had to re-heat my coffee more than I’d like to admit. This mug makes it so my coffee is the perfect temperature every sip.Only down side is now I need another one for my second cup of the day. 😀

This is an incredible invention
Coffee drinkers have something in common. Coffee is perfect as soon as brewing has been completed, and it goes downhill from there. It quickly cools or, if kept on the burner or hot plate, it gets bitter pretty fast. Now imagine a “smart mug” that keeps the same temperature all the time and, as having been brewed through a K-cup pod, it hasn’t any grounds at the bottom, maintaining its fresh and just having been brewed flavor and temperature perhaps all day. That defines the Ember Temperature Control Smart Mug 2. I didn’t believe it could behave as advertised and you would be right not to believe it either. It has an internal battery that communicates with a nicely fit coaster. The mug on its own knows when there is coffee inside and proceeds to maintain the temperature you have programmed. The battery in the mug is good for more than an hour, if you’re on the move, and for as long as needed if the mug is set on its coaster. It’s all electronic and so the unit doesn’t get hot. And the mug itself is very sturdy. I have lost a few mugs when drying them after washing and having the handle break off in my hands. Not with this one. It appears to actually be a perfectly molded metal cup with a ceramic baked exterior. So, the handle can’t break off. I am careful when washing the mug to try to keep the bottom side dry, but the company says the mug can be fully submerged in water. This mug is like alien technology! Okay, it’s pricey when compared to a mug you’d buy at your favorite discount store, but take the total cost and divide it by the endless number of perfect cups of coffee and you will see that it’s actually a bargain. I don’t know how I ever did without it.

Pros and cons
I haven’t had this cup for long but I can see the pros and cons. The biggest con for me is it’s very small. It says 14 oz but I think 14 oz would over flow the cup but it does work. That’s the biggest Pro. It keeps my coffee hot for hours. I’m 50/50 on price. It’s very expensive (in my opinion). Yes it works but is it worth the money I guess that’s a personal call.

Best purchase in a long time
I ordered the Ember and read the reviews after ordering. I was a little hesitant after reading some of the negative stuff in reviews. I don’t usually write reviews, but I like this product so much, I thought I’d give my input to help others out.-I work from a home office and found that my coffee tea gets cold before I finish it because I take my time while working.-It is even better than I expected to have drinks stay at the temperature I want. With the app, you can adjust the heat to the way you like it. The last sip is as good as the first.-I didn’t have any trouble setting up the cup and app. I followed some guy’s advice in the reviews to make sure the cup is fully charged before setting up the app and followed the instructions. That worked great for me.-I haven’t had any of the issues some seem to have had with the Bluetooth disconnecting (I use and iPhone mini). It’s been very solid. Twice in the first two weeks, it seemed to not be heating though it said it was connected. I simply turned off the heater through the app and turned it on again both times and it worked fine.-There’s some talk about not getting the charging stand wet. I am careful with that, making sure that I haven’t sloshed and gotten the bottom of the cup wet. Not a big deal at all to pay attention to that. I don’t walk around with normal mugs wet on the bottom anyway.-One review I read complained about the length of time the mug holds a charge. I generally, sit it on the charger by my workstation, so it’s always charging. If you do that, no problem with charge. A few times I’ve taken the mug other places in the house. It easily goes 1.5 hours and my guess is it’d approach ~2 hours, maybe a bit more. That’s plenty long for me. And I can recharge it and use again later. It’s definitely no iPhone in terms of battery life, but works for what I do. If you expect it to keep something warm for 8 hours, I don’t think it’ll do that.-It’s a very solid-feeling mug that’s got a really nice feel. Good heft, some sort of traction rubber on the bottom so it stays put where you set it down.-I was hesitant reading some of the negative reviews relative to the price. I am 100% happy with this purchase. One of the best things I’ve gotten recently and makes a fun difference in my days. Highly recommend it.

NOT Worth the price
Having previously posted a positive review I felt the need to update. It doesn’t work already. Very disappointed. As expensive as this item is, it is now worthless to me.

Great mug, a LOT expensive, but definately works.
The original review was accurate, but now that I’ve had the mug for 6 months (Originally 3 star), I have to reduce its rating… The mug itself is great, works well, and does what it says. It keeps my drinks at the temperature I set it to. The reason I’m reducing the rating here for 2 reasons.1) Trying to reach an actual person or something more intelligent than an automated help desk, is seeming to be nearly impossible. – To expand on this: I have been unable to find any contact information to report any issues I do have with the mug or software (I have no issues with the mug so far, but the software annoys me to no end).2) The software for the mug is so far below par, that they might as well just have a digital display on the side to show the temp and just set it that way. – Let me expand on this: a) If you don’t keep your mug paired, ie: carry it with you 100% of the time, anytime it isn’t paired, it forgets its pairing, and you have to go through the pairing procedure again to reconnect it. My car is a 2014, and the BlueTooth in it remembers my phone when I start it up, but this mug cannot. b) There’s no way to override the heating to ON, if the sensor doesn’t trigger to say the mug isn’t empty, it won’t turn on, even in the software Bluetooth connection. Through some digging, it states that it determines if it’s empty by the significant difference in temperature: The mug is cold, pour warm to hot fluid in it, and it detects the temp change and determines it’s not empty. I understand this is probably a safety feature to prevent the mug from burning out, but there should be some way to turn it on when you put room temp liquid into a room temp mug. (I usually make a batch of tea, and if I don’t finish it all in a day, I use it the next day, I shouldn’t have to microwave the first cup just to get it hot enough for the mug to realize it’s full.)So in summary: -The mug is absolutely great, so far it’s held up fine, with no chips/scratches. Works great to keep temp set. -Software needs a LOT of work. The biggest issue is the Bluetooth connection/protocol. I shouldn’t have to re-pair it every day just to connect to the mug to change it from Tea to coffee, or some other temp for a different drink. -Better contact forms, for when you can’t resolve the problem via automated help.I’m hoping that by rating this at only 1 star, maybe I’ll get a way to contact the company, or at least they’ll read this review and take the issues under advisement. Maybe even make a suggestions/complaints form to get these issues noticed so they know what to work on. Until I see a way to contact a live person, even if it’s just email, or something simple, I cannot rate this higher than a 1. IF I were having a real issue with this mug (like it not working) I’d be out the money it cost me to buy it.Original Review Below this line:***********************************Keeps my tea at the temperature I set, making every sip enjoyable.Pros:Heats relatively fastKeeps Temp very well.Con’s:It’s for Right Handers, if you’re left-handed, (or hold the mug in your left hand), the LED is on the back side where you can’t see it (less of a problem while you’re actually holding it), but if you set it down for grabbing with your left hand you can’t see the LED.The software is a little glitchy. I tried setting it to Celsius for a little bit, then when I tried to switch it back to Fahrenheit, it wouldn’t switch, I had to reset the app completely to default to get it back to Fahrenheit.Couldn’t find a contact form for issues (like the above software glitch), or suggestions.

Two plus years of use. A flawed product, but still something I use everyday and adore.
I’ve used this mug for close to two years now. This is one of those products that starts as a luxury splurge, but a year in you realize just how essential it’s become to your routine. It will sneak it’s way into your favorite things if you are a regular coffee or tea drinker at all, and it’s role becomes undeniable. The thought of no longer having it genuinely makes you feel a tiny bit sad.I could beam all day about how much I love this ridiculous mug. So, instead I’m going to rant about all the dumb things about it that detract from using it.The form factor is good enough, but the handle is poorly designed. The edges are too squared off, the shape isn’t made for human hands being so thin, and because the mug is so bottom heavy it takes these minute design flaws and emphasizes them. I’ve not had any issues with the coating, but I am careful not to use metal utensils to stir things in it. While the bottom looks a bit scuffed up, the coating is just fine. Positively, the outside of the mug does not get hot so you don’t need the stupid handle to hold it. Handle is pretty at least. The way the mug charges uses two prongs that connect with a ring on the bottom of the mug. It’s not inductive charging and I’m not sure it could be given the threat of liquids. I don’t have much of a problem with it being contact based and it nestles nicely into the base. The issue resides in the prongs themselves. They are tiny little spring loaded prongs that are predisposed to break if you do not baby the coaster. Sideways pressure of just putting the mug on the coaster from too flat of an angle over and over can jam the springs or break the prongs. I understand the need to have it be spring loaded to ensure contact, but must the contacts be so small and fragile? It just seems like there’s so many better solutions to this problem than small aftermarket parts. Although, it does mean more replacement coasters sold. I gifted my mom one of these for Christmas and she’s been through two coasters with broken prongs. The app is modern looking, and is just fine. Just fine like everything else. They want the app to look clean and minimal so instead of just having simple things like an on/off on the app home screen, you have to swipe in an unintuitive way to find that basic function located among temperature favorites instead of on the screen with your base temp and adjustment. There’s nothing indicating you can swipe to see a screen of options. Nor can you control the sleep timer on the mug through the app for inactivity. It’s just not using the space it has available all that well so everything feels like it has one too many steps involved for basic interaction. Prime example of form over function and the entire thing could use a redesign. If I only have a single mug registered to my device, why make me click the mug to connect and control each time the app starts up. Just default to the one thing it’s linked with and auto-connect until more devices are added. And these features would be useful because the mug just doesn’t detect empty or almost empty all that well. Many times I’ve had an empty cup and it just keeps on trucking, burning whatever last remnants have evaporated and been left in the bottom. Most of the time it works as it should, other times, you need to hold the mug completely upside down for a few seconds for the accelerometer inside to figure it there’s no possibility there is anything in the cup. If you use cheap flavored creamers you will quickly learn of the burnt smell of sugars. With no control over an inactivity timer it’s a bigger problem than I would like. These minor issues all add up, because no part of the product is undeniably extraordinary. The battery has degraded relatively quickly with heavy use and no longer lasts more than 20-30 minutes off of the coaster. It burns things all the time when I’ve not noticed it hasn’t properly triggered the sleep function. With the heater being in the bottom, the temp feels progressively hotter as you drink more and more. And now more recently, the rubber ring on the bottom of mine has deformed under the heat of normal handwashing and no longer can seat properly. It’s only a matter of time before repeated washing has done away with all the glue that secures it. It wants to have that marriage of luxury form and function that Apple-like products have, but when the function is so simple, it finds these odd ways to come up short. Like the LED indicator only being on one side of the cup, sorry lefties, or lack of optional auditory cues for the sake of convenience and accessibility. It is still just a mug. It does keep things wonderfully warm. I use it everyday, and often several times. The minuscule comfort of a hot coffee or tea keeping it’s temp as I toil away at projects is annoyingly priceless. It has injected an unexpectedly strange joy in my day to day life that makes the absurd price of a cup feel entirely justified. I’ve not touched another mug in my home since receiving it just about. I just hope the next iteration is a bit smarter and the cost saving measures aren’t as apparent.

We love our ember mugs!
We picked up a couple of these mugs for Black Friday and we’re ecstatic about them. We’ve used them every day for multiple drinks a day. Ember solves a real problem and is one of the very few non-gimmick smart products on the market today. Our friends ask why not a thermos? With a thermos it’s true, some can keep your drink close to the temperature you put them in at for a very long time. This is great if you’re saving a drink or soup for later in the day and preparing it in the morning. However, when you want to drink your beverage or soup right away, using a thermos causes you to constantly juggle how you drink it as it will be too hot for a long time and suddenly sit at a less than desirable temperature. Ember solves this problem keeping your drink at the perfect drinking temperature for hours. If you’re thinking of buying one, and the price is off-putting, wait for a good sale and pull the trigger. Gone are my days of rushing to drink my coffee “while it’s still hot”. I can prepare multiple drinks for the family and not worry about my own.

Love this cup! However…..
This is my 4th attempt at some type of coffee heater. Love this so much, it’s what I gave to entire family and friends for Xmas . My fav is the copper, high quality materials and works so good. Charging base is small and fits easily on side table.Copper is my favorite.Wish they would say that any color, other than copper, is a plastic . Not a fan. My recommendation is to purchase the copper.I wasn’t aware either that an app HAS to be downloaded, again not a fan. In fact, cup sat for 6wks while I pondered if I would even do that. I’m tired of everything being on a darn smart phone to use ! I read the data collection info, they send to apple your usage and monitor your “caffeine intake “! So buyer beware, not even a heated coffee cup is safe from data collection and dare I say, monitoring and spying on your coffee consumption!Other than that, love this copper cup.

Mostly very good if cleaned properly. (version 1)
After a year’s worth of use was considering a second and thought would share thoughts. In general – a very good purchase, does as promised. After a year I’m not sure the battery is holding up as expected, but that’s to be expected as far as battery life goes. The one flaw that annoyed the most – if you don’t make sure the bottom of the mug is absolutely dry, the contacts on the charging base will corrode and break. Just a simple patdown isn’t enough – the rubber spacers on the bottom of the mug will retain moisture, after several months I noticed the corrosion buildup on the charger base (the small spring that sticks up) and tried to clean it only to have that spring break off completely which of course left it unable to recharge. So if you’re used to washing it prior to using then you’ll likely end up having to buy a new base within a year. If your habits have you wash after using with a few hours to dry completely before putting it back on the base, then I expect you’ll be fine. This was with the original version, I have no idea if the new 2.0 version addresses this situation or not, only that the replacement base had the same weak-looking spring which will likely suffer the same fate over time if the base isn’t fully and completely dry after washing, which a simple toweling or wipedown is insufficient due to the rubber spacers retaining moisture.

Great gift for coffee/tea lovers
Ember Temperature Control Smart Mug 2, 10 Oz, App-Controlled Heated Coffee Mug with 80 Min Battery Life and Improved Design, Stainless Steel ($138.99)This was ordered as a gift for my husband. He loved it and has been using it everyday since Christmas. Feels nice and heavy in one’s hand. The accompanying app is super cool and temperature reads are accurate. Only issue is it takes longer to charge than it takes to use.(2 hours to recharge, after an 1.5 hour of use). Still a cool idea. Also need to make sure the charging plate does not get wet at all. He gives it a 4/5 stars.

Worth it
This mug was more expensive than others, but I am glad I splurged. It is easy to use; just keep it on the charger when you aren’t using, and it’s ready to go. Using the app I can choose what temp I want my coffee to be (144 degrees) and it keeps it that way for 1.5 hrs! Works great and now I don’t have to pour out my coffee when it gets cold. I love it.This is surely a boujee item, but I highly recommend it!!

This would be perfect… But…
The first one I had was perfect. So much so that I couldn’t even imagine having coffee with out it… Always at the perfect temp… I can set it down on my desk, go away for an hour or more and come back and it’s still delicious…But… (pointing to my butt)…The charging plate is seriosuly flawed… there are 2 little pins that connect to the botton of the cup… The one pin gets stuck and stops making contact rendering the cup useless… Customer Service was TERIFFIC and replaced the charging plate, but I’m not sure if it will happen again and would they replace the plate again if it did. It must be a problem for them to have a whole page on their website about it.Hopefully they have that issue solved. As I said above, this mug is incredible… and coffee without it is just not the same anymore.

Nice and Hot 🙂
You know that feeling when you sip hot chocolate, and it doesn’t burn your mouth but feels hot and warms your chest all the way down? I just found out that that’s 141 degrees! (at least for me)I’m very impressed with this. It maintains the heat and doesn’t burn the coffee. If you drink coffee slowly and want to use a mug instead of tumbler–and don’t enjoy increasingly lukewarm, then cold, coffee–this is worth it.—Pros and Con (compared to a heating plate)—-Pros:-No temperature variation, including by heating coffee when cup is full, after adding cold half-n-half (with heating plate, it was a little cold when full, then too hot and nearly burnt at the bottom)-Continues to keep hot even if not on the plate, which for the Ember is just for charging (just have to watch the battery, because it doesn’t last a super long time)Con:Can’t use your own mugs

Charge not lasting as well
I actually love this mug. I bought my first one in Feb 2021. Used it several times a day. About a year later, my daughter gifted me with one. So, I gave my first one to a friend. It was still keeping my coffee hot for a full hour and a half. I’ve had this second one for less than a year, and it’s not holding a charge well… around 30-45 minutes. Disappointing.

Fantastic mug, meh app
Ok I have to admit it that I was too skeptical about purchasing this mug. I mean I never thought that I would spend $100 over a mug. However, I work remotely and I take my time drinking my coffee, so I thought why not giving it a shot. I am in love with it. I told all my team in company about it. My only complaint is the app, and that’s why I took one star off. The app is glitchy and I have to restart the app several times before it gives me accurate reading. This company really needs to invest in developing a bug free app for Android (don’t know how it is on IOS)

Great mug but horrible app
So it works as advertised. I ordered this for my office at my job. I tend to pout tea but then forget about sometimes or i get busy moving across the buidling that i can’t carry my mug with me and thats why I ordered this . I can keep it at my office and it will keep the drink hot.It keeps it hot for about an hour but the charger is really close to me so I can charge if the battery dies.Set up is easy, turn bluetooth on , download the app and follow the instructions. Anything after that is pain if you’re on andriod. After my first use, i wanted to adjust temperature to see which i like the most, it wont reconnect and I had to the set up all over again. A day later same thing happened. Next day it connected but says no drink in the mug but I actually poured the tea . Had to do manual reset on the mug and app to reconnect. It kept connecting like it should for the next couple days but then the issue where i couldn’t connect except through the set up method came back. It is just horrible to have to set up every time or pray that the app actually recognize the mug and not having to set up every time.I have no idea about the app on IOS but on google play, the reviews share the same issues which is actually connecting to the mug.If you don’t care about the app and want to set the temperature one time and never use the app again then this is a 5/5 stars product.

Keeps hot liquids consistently hot!
The media could not be loaded.
I ordered 2 ember cups to give for Christmas gifts. One cup came in the original packaging with shrink wrap. The other came in a plain white box with packaging tape around it. Very secondhand used look. When holding the box you can hear loose parts banging around. It is unacceptable to receive the product this way. It was for a Christmas gift but I will return it because it is not presentable! At first I was not going to open it before returning but I thought I’d better check to see if the ember cup was inside! Yes, the cup and charger were inside – dumped in the box. I paid for a new product, not a used one. No instruction booklet either!I received one of these as a gift and love how my hot fluids stay hot over hours! Even if you get distracted and remember your hot drink an hour later- it’s still hot! When the cup is off the charging base it will still keep your drink hot for a while. You can set your desired temp on the Ember app.I’ve ordered many of times from Amazon over many years and this is the first time seeing this type of poor quality/quality control.

Never knew I’d love it like I do!!
My husband will not drink lukewarm coffee. I don’t mind drinking coffee at any temperature, but have 4 in the family that continue to rave about Ember. We are both loving our heated coffee and I just bought another for a Christmas gift!

best thing is your last sip is as hot as the first
Seven days of use so tentative review but it all works as it’s supposed to. The software has not required re-pairing to the Ember. Being able to walk around with the cup and not have it too tethered to a heating coaster is a good feature. The battery charge is enough for leisurely sipping all the way through the mug and a refill. But in my experience the charge always runs out during the third mug, so now I tend to keep the coaster near and use it some of the time.145 F turns out to be hot enough but just barely. Didn’t realize I favoured the hotter temps of coffee drinking but apparently so. If you add cream, you’ll find it drops the temp a lot so if your 2nd or 3rd cup is coming out of the pot not as hot as your first, and then you add cream, your temp will be 130F or so. The cup is not designed to heat your coffee from a lower temp. For me it’s managed to get a up up from 130F to 145F but slowly, and I’ve taken to heating water in the kettle to pre-heat the Ember for each cup. It’s winter and the house is colder so maybe this will be less necessary in other seasons. The heating function doesn’t turn off immediately as soon as it’s empty so it does tend to cook some coffee onto the bottom surface after your last sip, but I’ve found it to be easy to clean.I had sipper mug lids that fit this cup already in my cupboard so you may already have something that fits. A lid does improve the heating efficiency a lot if you’re trying to raise the temp after adding cream. So, overall I use this the same way as I used any other cup, still pre-heating with water from the kettle etc., but the difference is the last sip is as hot as the first sip. That alone makes it worth it.

Perfect for office!
Bought this for my wife as a present and I’m pretty sure she loves it more than me now. It’s incredibly easy to set up and control. Takes a bit of fiddling to find your perfect setting but once you find it, BOOM! perfect drink temp forever.Just slap the coaster down on your desk, plug it in, install the app, and you’re good to go. If you keep the mug on the coaster you don’t have to worry about battery life at all. But if you just HAVE to walk around with your mug, it’ll keep your drinks warm for a couple hours (less at higher temp settings).

Keep your beverage nice and hot for 80 minutes
I hate cold coffee and usually had to microwave to reheat or toss half of my coffee. This really keeps my coffee hot for about 80 minutes, no more waste and no more taking a drink of cold coffee.

I’m loving my Ember Mug
I’m loving my Ember mug – it uses an app for setting the holding temp exactly where I want it (140° for me is perfect). It feels stunningly luxurious to have my coffee perfectly hot with every sip. Knowing it won’t be cold even after letting it sit for lots of minutes without drinking any is sparking joy! When I’m finished drinking coffe for the day, I’m keeping the base plugged in and on the table by my chair. A quick hand-wash then setting the mug on its base is all it takes and it’s waiting and ready for tomorrow. It’s “sleeping” and is activated by pouring coffee in. No turning on or off. I’m worthy of this big improvement in (what is for me) an important daily routine.

Keeps coffee hot but you are tied to the charger
I was introduced to this mug by my neighbor from Cali and said why not. Purchased 2 mugs a little over a year ago: 1 for me and 1 for my wife. Mug itself seems to be made from quality material. The charger is made of subpar material in my opinion. Highest temp setting is perfect for me but battery doesn’t last long. Speaking of battery: poor battery charge life, expected more for this price. Battery life with the highest temperature setting lasts about 10-15 minutes then you have to place on charger hence my title about being tied to the charger. To overcome this situation, we keep a charger on the end table for both my wife and I to use and I keep the other charger on my home office desk, problem solved but I shouldn’t have to solve this problem because of the product’s high cost. Charger plug and wiring is old, outdated. plug is oversized and no way of hiding. Plug or wire breaks you are screwed since it’s not USB. Syncing with the app was not hard but still more challenging than expected and not as easy to navigate for a simple product. Overall 3.5 stars. Probably wouldn’t purchase again and just stick with an Artic, Yeti or something similar given the cost and benefit analysis. Hopefully Ember updates the battery and charger while lowering the overall cost of the mug. Hope this was helpful.

Good Mug But One Inherent Flaw
This is a great mug for keeping your beverage hot. No, the battery will not last all day, but for me, it lasts long enough. The problem is not with the mug but with the charging coaster design. When the mug is placed on the charger, the battery in the bottom of the cup naturally warms up a bit. The coaster is cooler so condensation form in a ring which goes right over the spring activated charging pins. (see photo) In time, this dampness causes corrosion and at least one pin will get stuck down. There is another picture in the reviews showing the damaged pin.An electronic handyman would be able to change the pins but that’s a hassle. I haven’t found another solution yet beside wiping the moisture away. Maybe a drop of WD40?

3rd mug I’ve ordered
Crazy expensive mug but so worth it! My husband kept using my mug so I finally got him one. I prefer these over the travel mug. Make sure to dry the bottom well before placing on charger. We cricuted it which stuck well.

Love, love, love it!
I have tried tons of coffee warmers that you set a standard Cup on. They help somewhat, but nothing like this cup. I am a slow coffee drinker and I love hot coffee. Before I got this mug I poured out lots of half cups of cold coffee and replace them with full cups of hot coffee. I also have two of the charging coasters. I can go from watching TV in one room and going to my office and have coffee in both places using only one cup. This one is a gift for my daughter. I have only one complaint and that is the fact that’s the highest temperature is 140°. I prefer my coffee a little hotter than that.

Keeps my coffee warm while I slowly drink it
Got an Ember for Christmas last year and I LOVE it. Got one for my brother-in-law this Christmas. I want my coffee hot when I drink it but sometimes I’m on the computer and forget to sip. It stays hot for an hour and a half. I usually am able to drink it before the battery runs out.

Everything I had hoped it would be
I have a machine at home and make cappuccinos and Lattes. Like many have noted, after the drink is less than 1/2 gone it’s less enjoyable and I sort of gulp the rest down as cools.I find it more enjoyable to take a sip every now and then over 20 to 40 minutes at my chosen temperature. As long as the battery lasts at least a couple of years it’s more than worth the price to me.

Extremely thoughtful gift — I love it! — No more trips to the microwave — Keep track of price
NO MORE TRIPS TO THE MICROWAVE!This item was an anniversary gift from my wife. She knows that I love hot coffee/tea… but I hate multiple trips to the microwave to keep it hot. I’ve tried warming plates, but I really didn’t get the result I wanted.THOUGHTFUL GIFTSo, when this particular mug went on sale, my wife snatched it up. (I recommend keeping track of prices.) It was the perfect gift for me. Plus, I think about her thoughtfulness every day, multiple times day.MAXIMUM 145 DEGREESI rarely use this mug when not on its platform, but, on its own, it keeps warm for a decent amount of time. I prefer the maximum 145 degrees, and I feel that my mug struggles with keeping that temperature for a full 80 minutes.EXCELLENT APP FOR ADJUSTING TEMPERATUREIncidentally, the Ember app is amazing for adjusting desired temperature and keeping track of heat levels. If you choose to allow notifications, you will receive a nice announcement declaring that the desired temperature has been achieved. It also displays battery life.GENERAL CARE – DON’T USE STIR WITH METAL SPOONS AND GENTLY CLEANOne note: It bugs me that some folks have complained about their mug getting scratched and quickly wearing out. Common sense would dictate that one would gently cleanse the mug with non-scratching sponges, etc. Also, please don’t stir with a metal spoon while making contact with the Ember surface… the metal spoon will scratch for sure. Try using the British method of stirring (back and forth versus round and round). Otherwise, Emma Thompson is going to get you! (SNL reference… look it up)I’ve had my mug for almost a year, and I love it!

awesome mug, its morning changing
I have owned this mug for a year now. I only hand wipe it out with paper towel after each use. I have become so spoiled having piping hot coffee in the morning. Mug size is perfect, I wish the battery lasted a little longer and I wish it could get even hotter but it is 10x better than any ordinary or insulated mug.

Six Stars- Finally: HOT coffee … oops, 4 stars
Update:16 months later I still use the ember mug every day and like it. But something is loose in the charger base. I have to turn it upside down and place the inverted mug underneath it. I guess a wire is loose or something of that sort so electricity only flows with the whole set-up inverted. So I can’t place the mug on the charger to keep my brew hot for a long time. Since I finish off any given dose of Java fairly fast, this is not a problem. I can do at least 2 cups before I have to recharge. I hope the charger doesn’t die completely.Crazy expensive, but Ember uses induction heating to break the 125° barrier. The “hot” plate never gets hot. All the heat goes into the coffee. It holds a healthy 9 oz.Hand wash. Do NOT microwave.I never seriously thought I’d own a Bluetooth coffee mug and be happy I did.The usual run of nearly identical coffee warmers are just miniature hot plates that, for safety reasons, do not dare go over a certain temperature; around 185°. That temperature, transferred to your mug or cup, just can’t keep your coffee more than about 125° tops in a room with normal temperature. That just doesn’t do it for me. I don’t want warm coffee, I want a HOT coffee. In the past – and by the past I mean about a week ago- I would get up literally every three minutes and warm up my cooling coffee in the microwave for 15 seconds. That worked, but it was tedious. With the Ember mug, You download the app, easily pair your mug to the app after pressing the bottom button and set your desired maintenance temperature. In my case that temperature is 145. I would go to 155 if it would let me but 145 is the max and will do. If you’ve poured a cup that is hotter than 145 the temperature will gradually lower, accurately displayed on your phone or tablet screen if you care to look, and when your target temperature is reached you get a little notification and the temperature stays there very reliably. This is so great. No more getting up from the table and doing The microwave thing. You don’t even have to keep it plugged in once it is charged. The ember mug is good for at least a couple of cups of coffee before the battery inside the mug runs out. If you keep it on the little induction plate then there is no limit to the number of times you can refill. You don’t have to drag around a little induction plate with its cord and transformer if you need to switch rooms. Due to its induction style heating, the bottom of the mug does not get hot. The mug knows when liquid has been poured into it and turns on by itself. A neat thing: if you have half an inch of liquid in the mug it somehow knows that the liquid still needs heat. But as soon as the mug is empty, the mug knows the score and turns off.As long as this thing keeps working reliably, as I pray that it will, I will regret the high price less and less as the months go by.So buy buy buy Ember Mug!

We LOVE our Ember Mugs
I originally bought one of these for my wife as a gift. I didn’t really think it would be as great as it is. My wife was always dumping cold coffee and refilling, so this seemed like a nice gift idea. Well, she LOVED it and she uses it every day. She loved it so much, she bought one for home and one for at work. Then I tried it and I fell in love with it. So now I bought one for me too. It really is the best thing to happen to a coffee mug since the coffee mug was invented. And the app keeps getting better and better!

Not perfect but better than anything else
There are a few problems with the Ember stuff. If you do not dry the bottom of the mug the charge base can corrode and you have to buy a new mug. I would not put the mug in the dishwasher. Both of these things can be handled. The bluetooth connection from the mug to you phone (for iPhone, I do not have Android to test) is flakey. Sometimes, even when the mug is within 3 feet of the phone, the App can not find the phone. When this happens I end the app, remove the mug from bluetooth, and start the App up again. It usually pairs right away and you are off. This has gotten MUCH better for me with my new mug. It used to be MUCH worse and harder, press the bottom of a full mug to start pairing again, with an older Ember mug I had. These things are annoying. However, no other product does what this does. No wires while you are drinking your coffee. You can walk around with your mug, no problem. Keeps a constant temp. Set it in the App and the mug keeps your beverage at that temp. I had one of the mug and heated plate things and this is MUCH better. The plate always had to be plugged in and the temperature control just changed the temp of the plate, the temp of your beverage changed depending on how long the mug was off the plate. I drink coffee and tea, and I like them at different temperatures. Switching temps just takes a swipe and tap in the App.It could be made better, but there is no other option out there that comes close. It’s a bit expensive, but if you want your coffee at the temperature you like and you like to walk around with your coffee there is no choice.Update!!! The mug is MUCH better with bluetooth. Still not perfect. Only occasionally is my phone unable to find the mug that is right next to it. This used to happen fairly often (weekly) and now it only happens about every other month.

It’s ok
Keeps the coffee hot for 80 minutes (as advertised). I drink coffee all day. So, I ordered a second coaster . . . I guess it’s a good way for Ember to make another $40. My biggest gripe: I have the 14 ounce mug . . . It only holds 10 ounces. Maybe they count the battery?! For the money, I’m actually disappointed.

Perfect…. Except for one design flaw!
The cup works beautifully and keeps my coffee hot for the over an hour I like to sip it. The design flaw relates to cleaning. You will see mentions in the reviews of corrosion on the bottom contact rings used when the cup is back in contact with the charger base. As a result, I carefully dried the bottom after washing assuming folks might have been a little careless when they dried the bottom. I was surprised to see that a small amount of water was under my cup as well. The following day after drying the bottom with a towel I dried it again with paper towel pressed firmly into the rings and plastic. Several attempts drew more water droplets. I thought I had it then. The following morning I had the same droplets under the cup! More research of reviews showed a suggestion to dry with a towel and then turn the mug upside down on a paper towel for several hours for air drying. Then put on the charger base. That seemed to work! Ember needs to engineer this problem out of their product or at least be more forthcoming in their documentation.

Battery Operated Coffee Mug
OK, so I have tried coffee mug heating plates and since most mugs are concave on the bottom, they don’t work very well. I saw an Ember mug add and decided to give it a try. It’s way over priced, but I drink coffee every day so I thought I would give it a try. My experience started with having trouble unboxing the mug. The outer cardboard was so tight I had troubles sipping it off to get to the main box to open. The Ember mug does work to keep coffee warm enough. I like that the app let’s you select any temperature up to 145F. The mug size is OK, feels solid and like it is made out of ceramic. Size wise it is better than some mugs but could be a couple of ounces bigger. The handle on the Mug is good and is bigger than most, which I hate small handles on most mugs. The sides of the handle are a little sharp. It would be more comfortable if the sides were rounded a little more, minor issue. You can’t use the mug unless you have a cell phone with bluetooth. The phone app is terrible, the most disappointing aspect of this mug. The color LED light on the mug is way overly complicated. You can make the color “your” color, but it still uses other colors. When charging or in use it does not use the color you selected, it is either red, green or white. The only time I see my color is when I first pick up the mug.Since I drink coffee all morning, I need the charger at my desk. On the phone app the level of charge should be on the main screen, instead it is hidden in a setup screen that you can only get to from one screen. The app needs all of 1 or 2 screens, instead it has like 8 screens and makes it a hassle to operate. The UI is also not intuitive and I am always having to undo an action because I clicked on something wrong. For the price they should at least include a cover to help reduce heat loss and help with battery life. And you really need a second charger for the kitchen for after I wash the mug and would like to leave it near my coffee maker to recharge. Instead I have to store it in my office to recharge which is inconvenient the next morning.I really like the concept, but based on the price and what you get and the pathetic phone app I am giving this product 3 stars. I would give it 4 stars it the app wasn’t so bad. I would give 5 stars if they made the phone app more user friendly, included a cup cover and a second charger for under $100. For now it is an overpriced convenience with hassles.

Keeps Your Drink Warm But Battery Will Fade & App Rarely Works
Had this mug for 2.5 years before having to replace it as the batter no longer holds a charge. I noticed the length of time slowly decreasing with the last few months only keeping my coffee warm for 15-20 minutes max. I guess this is to be expected (just like cell phones) but was hoping to get a few more years out of the product given the cost. The mug is easy to clean but over time does get a burned on residue and starts to peel a little (see photo). It’s not that bad, but hoping this new version addresses that issue. The app is still genuine crap even after 2.5 years and has not been meaningfully updated. Took me 45 minutes to setup because of constant disconnecting and not being able to find the device. I was never able to maintain the connection on my old Ember as well. The good news is that the default setting of 135 degrees is great for most drinks and you can avoid the app, however, this is baked into the cost versus similar products. All that said, I went back a second time so they’re clearly doing something right. Hope they address the battery life and app in newer versions over the coming years.

I bought 2, but…
Review Updated – May 2022: After a ~year of (daily) use I noticed the ceramic on the bottom of one of the mugs starting to flake away. I contacted Ember support to see if anything could be done. They asked for a photo of the problem and the serial number. As soon as I emailed the photos I received a shipping notification, and a follow up mail letting me know that a replacement mug was on the way! Thanks to the amazing customer support (Thanks Michele!), and being a company that stands behind their product, I have updated my review from 4 to 5 stars. Ember has really nailed customer satisfaction – it’s really refreshing to see how well they do it.Overall I really have been enjoying the Ember 2 Mug.It works well, seems durable and keeps my coffee at the perfect temperature. The only negative I see is the battery life. At the temperature setting I use, I don’t get the full 80 mins out of the mug. I’d say it is probably closer to an hour (and this is consistent for both mugs I own). Most days the 1 hour life is plenty, but sometimes I’m a little slower drinking, so I was going to buy an extra charging coaster to keep on my desk. But after seeing the price of the coaster ($40) and the delay in getting one (it was 3-4 weeks when I looked), I just decided to buy a whole new mug. Now I keep one set in my office, and one in the kitchen, and I’m able to keep my coffee at the perfect temperate for hours. However, in my experience after about 90-120 mins of heating, it starts to taste more “burned” and eventually (after 2+ hours) turns into gross, burned “stale office coffee” that tastes like it has been sitting in a pot for the whole day. Again, I have my heat set high, so I am sure at a lower temperature you’d get better coffee after a few hours.PRO TIP: I was considering buying the travel version of this mug, but didn’t like the smaller capacity, nor did I really think I needed to spend money on a 3rd Ember. As it turns out, the Yeti Magnetic Lids fit the Ember 2 mug perfectly, and turn it into a great travel mug. I used the lid from a 20oz tumbler, but I’m sure other ones will fit too.
