I have self-published one book and am working on a second. I wish I had found this book the first time. It is easy to read and prioritizes important content. The author provides valuable context, advice, and resources for each step in the process. I consider it a valuable reference as I work on my new self-publishing project.

Very pleased with this book. I needed information clear and succinct – with several types of options for a book being published. good job and thanks for bringing it all together!

As a first-time novelist who is also a techno-phobe, this book was just what I needed.

Barb Drozdowich tells she she knows why things work in self-publishing and then shows her vast understanding of the process as she lays out the whole range of these things in simple demos. She actually calls it “author-directed publishing” and I find that more accurate and more encouraging. As a beginner, this is the book I’ve been waiting for! With her tech background and deep experience, Barb has given us a dense and complete manual we can really use if we are babes in the publishing and technology woods. I love the homework, given so we can look at books and see how things are done and get a picture of how we want them to work for our own self-published book. Want background on your publishing project in the big picture? You got it. Want a roadmap/flowchart of publishing YOUR book? You got it. Need help with the formatting, prepping the manuscript, structure details, tech explanations of steps in the publishing of your book? You’ll find it all here, with clear explanations that are as relaxed and helpful as if they came from a friend in a chat over coffee. What about book retailers? Barb’s got you covered. Strategies for getting your book sold? You’ll find them here. I love the lesser-known things we can do for our Kindle e-books, like using the X-ray for Authors feature, which I welcome as a reader. Barb’s caveats on self-publishing services are gold. The Glossary is my new friend as I begin to learn the jargon of the publishing world. The list of Distributors, File Requirements, Cover Requirements, and Editor’s Roles are welcome! The resources, articles for learning more, and list of YouTube videos on how do do all the technology required to produce a self-published book all add more value. I now feel confident heading into the self-publishing world with Barb’s manual in my hand.

I can’t believe how much information is in this book! I was expecting a basic overview of how to stick a book up on Amazon and not much else, so I was shocked to see just how much of the process this book covers. It starts out with some basic terminology used in the book world and then builds on that by describing the physical anatomy of a book. The author then continues on to describe how to actually write and prepare a professional manuscript before even starting to get into the publishing aspect of things. This is a very thorough, detailed resource that is a must-have for anyone considering self-publishing a book. The basic information provided in the beginning sections and the appendices alone would be more than worth the cover price. I highly recommend this book.

How to self- publish a book is very informative. With the authors background she knows what she is talking about. This book is not just for beginning authors it is also for the seasoned author who wants to try indie publishing. Not only does Barb go over all the key points she includes links and explains what each item is. If you forget why you go along you can use the glossary at the end of the book. Easy step by step to keep an author on track of what to do. She even assigns homework that helps you get use to doing specific things you might not already know. It is a laid back kind of style so a new person will not feel overwhelmed.
