I have my everlasting and sharp as can be Cutco steak knives. I have 10 of them.I have my Shun steak knives–but only four. I’d need a second job or mortgage to buy the additional four I want. Besides, while they’re good, I don’t find them to be better than Cutco. Both those sets cost so much money that it’s really a once-in-a-decade type of purchase. The upside is that it’s plausible that I will never need to buy steak knives again in my lifetime, especially since Cutco continually sharpens mine or sends me a new one if the one I send for sharpening is not worthy of fixing. Now, having said that, I was having 15 guests over for a steak BBQ dinner and realized that I was the genius who had JUST mailed off my knives to Cutco three days prior to the event. Too late to run to UPS to get them back, and I only have eight Wusthof knives, so….I immediately came to Amazon.I didn’t want an expensive set because if I just had both sets in the house, I’d have enough to cover everyone. I really needed just a back-up emergency set and planned to spend under $100 for all 10-15 knives, if possible. If too pricey, I figured I’d order 10 and make do by pre-slicing some meat.Well, I then find this AmazonBasics set and it’s…$20 for eight knives. I’m thinking it’s a misprint and looking at the picture, there’s simply no way these knives would be $20 for eight. Full tang, riveted handle, single-piece construction….a serrated edge….and $20. It doesn’t make any sense and I’m convinced this is hogwash. It’s not possible…But, you figure I needed these for one night and so long as they didn’t disintegrate during the dinner, I figure it’s just added cost to the dinner if they should fall apart right afterwards. They were available as Amazon Prime, so I ordered two as 16 knives would cover me for this dinner.Imagine my surprise when I open the box to find an actual single-piece construction, a viciously sharp serrated tip/edge and an incredibly sturdy feel in the hand. The rivets are embedded flawlessly and the look of the knives are quite impressive. They appear and feel hefty. Now, given that I’m comparing this to steak knives that cost well over $500 for the set ( Cutco: https://www.cutco.com/products/product.jsp?item=4-pc-steak-knife-set ), it’s not surprising that Cutco is better in terms of sharpness. That set makes steak act like butter when it begins slicing. This AmazonBasics set is not quite as sharp; in fact, it’s much duller than that set, naturally. But it accomplishes steak slicing with ease and in the hand, feels sturdier and pricier overall. The oddity is that the serrated edge is only at the front half of the knife instead of all the way through, so you do need to slant your knife more to achieve the cut with ease, though any which way you use it will get through the meat. Perhaps serrating the edge all the way through would have pushed the price up–in which case, fine, I’ll take the first half of the knife.Overall, this set is superb in price and functionality. If budget is an issue and you want a whole 16 pc. set, getting two of these knives is no problem at all. They look outstanding on a table setting and while there’s no real branding on the knife, they look and feel substantial. Nobody would guess you spent less than $3.00 per steak knife. NOBODY.This is now my go-to set for big parties where I am not concerned what people do with the knives. You figure if any of them break, I can come back and get as many of these sets as I want anytime. Really outstanding value and buy!

Over the years our steak knives have disappeared. This was a reasonably priced replacement set. It says don’t put in dishwasher but we did; they held up well. Would buy again.

We needed a set of 8 steak knives, so we ordered both the Henckels and Amazon Basics so we could compare the two. The Amazon brand is much more beefy and the handle is more comfortable. The Henckels brand seems to have a more textured blade, but the Amazon brand cuts very well. We’ve used them several times, and I’ve already cut my thumb! Also, it’s recommended not to put them in the dishwasher, but I put mine in the third top rack and they haven’t suffered any. Bonus: You’re paying half the price of the brand name.

Needed these to replace a worn out set. Was skeptical at first until they arrived. Good weight. Handle feels solid. They recommend hand washing which I don’t have a problem with. Cuts well. Price is good. Time will tell how durable they are.I would recommend this to friends and family.

I bought these knives years ago, didn’t realize I never reviewed them, but I honestly think it’s better that I am reviewing them now. After years of usage, and kids throwing them into the dishwasher instead of washing by hand as recommended, they still are the best steak knives in the house. They are used not only for cutting meat but for cutting anything and everything. Having trouble getting into that plastic packaging…get the steak knife…having issues with that cardboard box…not anymore. They’ve maintained their serrated cutting edge well and they haven’t suffered much from dishwasher cleaning. I’d have liked to have kept washing them by hand but once one went through it was only a matter of time before they all did, and that’s OK. Great price, a staple for dinner use, go ahead and buy them, they just work.

So sharp and solid. Folks are full of garbage if they say they rust. That only happens when you put them in a dishwasher. They have some weight to them which makes them feel like they should when you are cutting steak! Wish they were dishwasher safe, but I can gladly deal with my laziness to keep these beauties in tip top shape! Did I say love them? Because I love them!

I have had these knives for over a year and love them. They have held up and they have been abused. For the reviews that mention that these knives rust and are not stainless are most likely keeping these knives damp. Stainless does not mean they will not rust….there are various types of alloys and some of the combinations that make a good cutting edge will rust if not cleaned properly. I have a set of Ken Onion Shun knives (over 800 bucks a knife) and guess what happens if I don’t clean them properly…they get rust spots. That being said I keep a set of wusthof classic steak knives for the adults(too sharp) and these knives go into the general pop of kitchen utensils . They take the abuse and are used everyday. Also I don’t have to worry when my wife uses them to open Amazon boxes. Great knives for the price. Can’t go wrong.

I ordered this set steak knives to go with the matching Chef Set. They are absolutely wonderful. I only wish this set came with a matching block.

Had been looking for a decent steak knife and these filled the bill. Nice balance in one’s hand when cutting. Study and well crafted as well. I freely give this item 5 stars!
